The main attraction of the Serengeti/Mara Ecosystem, which encompasses the Serengeti National Park, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, the Maswa Game Reserve, the Ikorongo Game Controlled Area and the Grumeti Game Reserve itself, is wildlife. At Grumeti Migration Camp we offer unparalleled access to the local ecology through open vehicle day and night game drives, guided nature walks and an intensive birdwatching program equal to any in Africa.
In the Grumeti Game Reserve open vehicle game drives are permitted. It is also possible, when safety permits, to leave the vehicle and explore more deeply. We have available a private concession including a large area of the Grumeti River. Contained within are many of the usual plains and woodland antelope species, including giraffe, waterbuck, zebra, buffalo and wildebeest among others, but also elephant, and of course many gallery forest species including Colobus Monkey. We offer an unusual take on game viewing. We call it wildlife for the connoisseur. Penetrating and intimate interaction with a variety of habitats constantly reveals the unique and unusual. This is the Grumeti Migration Camp perspective…always at the cutting edge
The Grumeti Game Reserve is situated outside the defined boundaries of the Serengeti National Park. Consequently we are able to offer guided nature walks within our concession. These are guided by a professional guide escorted by local guides and wildlife experts. These are men and women who have grown up in the area and who understand intimately the inner workings of the environment. We have adopted a policy of integrating strictly local guiding skills into our guiding program. Consequently a very unique series of walking trails offering, once again, always the unique and interesting, are available for your pleasure. This is a unique aspect of the Grumeti Migration Camp program.
Birdwatching is an Grumeti Migration Camp specialty. We are situated between the Grumeti River and the woodland savvana habitat of the Serengeti. As a consequence we offer access to the riparian forest system of the Grumeti River, the wooded habitat of low lying local hill country and the open acacia/commiphora woodland savana in between. A large number of local endemics compliment a birdlist running into several hundred species.
At Grumeti Migration Camp we can offer pre-arranged birding tours including the Grumeti Game Reserve and other notable birding sites of the region.
We also integrate our game drives and nature walk with evening sundowners and bush barbecues to capture the very essence of the African bushveld. Imagine a sunset along the beautiful Grumeti River complimented by excellent fireside food and premier South African wines.
One of our Grumeti Migration Camp specialties are bush sundowners held on the banks of the Grumeti River. There is no better way to absorb the grandeur of an African sunset!
A Grumeti Migration Camp tradition is our outdoors barbecue where we serve a selection of local dishes cooked in the outdoors, and featuring the finest local lamb for which the region is well know. Dining is alfresco under the stars with a selection of excellent South African wines to choose from. Nothing can beat a meal under the wide Serengeti night sky.
A favorite in camp is our outdoors firepit where drinks or meals can be taken under the stars with the movement and sounds of wildlife close at hand. This is Africa in the raw, and is a specialty of Grumeti Migration Camp
